The powers that be at Pantone have decided that the colour of the year for 2020 is (drum roll, please!):
What began twenty years ago, the Pantone colour of the year franchise has grown into an institution within its own right, able to dictate the hues that will dominate the fashion industry as a whole.
In those twenty years, the world has seen many changes, some good and some not so good and thus, in choosing the colour of the year this time round, Pantone aimed to choose a colour that represented valued traits in today’s current climate.
“There’s the same feeling of trepidation about the world, which is why, based on what we saw happening in our global culture, we selected Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, to be our colour of the year for 2020.” states Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, when summing up Pantone’s choice of colour for 2020.
“It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.”
Laurie goes on to explain why the colour choice should resonate with so many people.
“It speaks to our feelings of anticipation, when you think about the sky at dusk, the day isn’t over. You’re thinking, what’s ahead of us? It’s reassuring, but thought-provoking. It highlights our desire for this dependable, anchoring foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era. We’re living in a time that requires trust and faith and confidence. We all see this blue sky and can relate to it, it’s approachable.”
