Happy Birthday, Coco… To Fashion House Chanel’s Iconic Founder

Madame Coco Chanel is as much the style icon today as she ever was, with her trademark pieces remaining immediately recognizable and timeless.

Born 132 years ago today in a hospice for the poor, Gabrielle Boheur Chanel earned the nickname ‘Coco’ whilst singing in the French cafés of her era. After the death of her mother when she was just eleven, she was sent by her father to a orphanage where she learnt to sew.

The rest, they say, is history…

Originating as a hat designer, she then expanded to womenswear, eventually dominating the Paris fashion world with her designs.

Her distinctive style revolutionized women’s clothing at the turn of the century, freeing them from the restrictions of the corset style clothing of the time and introducing them to her liberated ‘less is more’ vision of looser style clothing.

From her humble beginnings in the convent, the inspirational Coco grew her multi million dollar business empire and brand to consist of clothes, perfumes and bags, all collected and adorned by both the world’s aristocrats of her era and fashionistas of today.

In honour of the fabulous Coco Chanel and her impeccable style, below are the most fabulous of Chanel items available for you, from her classic style suit to her gorgeous vintage must haves.
