John Paul Gaultier: ‘The Fashion World’ Exhibition

Just as his runway couture show came to a close this week, John Paul Gaultier’s travelling exhibition, titled The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk (La planète mode de Jean Paul Gaultier, de la rue aux étoiles), is currently on display at the Brooklyn Museum, New York.

Bringing together more than 140 garments (including such iconic pieces as Madonna’s 90’s ‘conical’ bra and her ‘Blond Ambition’ tour wardrobe, as well as the fabulous designs created for the classic movie, ‘The fifth Element’), the exhibition celebrates John Paul Gaultier’s thirty five year contribution to the world of fashion.

The exhibition was initiated and produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), under the direction of Nathalie Bondil, Director and Chief Curator and Thierry-Maxime Loriot, curator at the MMFA in collaboration with Maison Jean Paul Gaultier.

With film excerpts, documentaries, sketches and fashion photographs, the exhibition has already proven to be a huge success, with many looking forward to being at the exhibition’s next stop destinations including the Paris’ Grand Palais from the 1st of April to the 3rd August 2014, as well as the Barbican, London, from the 9th April to the 25th August 2014.
