The Original Supermodels: Showing how it’s done…

If there is still any doubt that the 90’s is definitely back, then further proof can be seen in the September issue of Interview magazine

where renowned photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott pay homage to the supermodels of that era with seven different covers of seven iconic supermodels, including Christie Turlington, Naomi Campbell and one of my all time favourites, Linda Evangelista.

The 90’s is when the term ‘supermodel’ was first heard, largely brought about by the media’s revelation of these models blase attitude towards their somewhat lucrative incomes and fabulous lifestyles – which was further cemented by Ms. Evangelista’s  supposed famous line, “I won’t even get out of bed for less than £10,000.”

Absolutely super…

Noticabely missing from this line up where Helena Christensen (another favourite), Cindy Crawford (who, in my opinion, still has one of the most effective workout videos out there today!), Karen Mulder, Eva Herzigova (of ‘Hello boys’ notoriety…), Yasmin Le Bon and my absolute favourite Esther Canadas.

All of these lovely ladies were also part of the 90’s supermodel clique and it would have been nice to have also seen them featured.

Yep, there’s no doubt about it.

These original supermodels most definitely paved the way for the girls that followed and many would undoubtedly say that original will always be the best…!

(Do also check out ‘The Originals‘ feature in September’s issue of Interview magazine – by Ludivine Poiblanc and Karl Templer – where you can see more beautiful black and white shots of these iconic models, again taken by Alas and Piggott.)
